One park does most of the work, a second one handles the kids-with-cleats crowd, the library picks up the rainy afternoons, and the Moffett Road strip catches everyone on the way home. That's the whole system.
The point of this post isn't to list events. It's to show how a resident can plan the next six weekends around four addresses instead of scrolling ten Facebook pages every Thursday night.
Why Semmes Honor Park is the anchor
Honor Park is where the city puts its biggest moments. The City of Semmes is hosting an Independence Day Block Party on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Semmes Honor Park, and the free event includes live entertainment, food trucks, vendors and a fireworks show. Same park hosts the holiday tree lighting and decorating in November, and the Semmes Christmas Market runs there on November 21. That's the tell. If a Semmes event has fireworks, a stage, or a tree, it's Honor Park.
The Block Party is the reason most residents will step onto that lawn this summer, so it's worth understanding what's actually running that night before you decide whether to walk in cold or plan around it.
What the June 28 lineup actually looks like
- Music: Lost In Paradise, a Jimmy Buffett tribute, with Mixtape, an 80's tribute band, will headline the event. Two acts, one stage, and a Buffett set on a Sunday in late June is about as on-the-nose as Gulf Coast programming gets.
- Kids: A Foam Party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., a trampoline bungee jump, and games. If you're bringing small kids, the foam window closes before sundown, which matters for the wardrobe plan.
- Food and shopping: Nearly 20 food vendors and nearly 70 vendors overall, with food names including Little Lemon Co., Mr. Rooster and Fresh & Feral Co.
- Fireworks: Fireworks are set to begin at 9 p.m.
- Getting there: An Orange Route bus picks up from Semmes Senior Center and the Semmes Senior Housing Complexes (ADA accessible), and the larger buses have an undercarriage for strollers, chairs and other items. That undercarriage detail is the practical answer for anyone who's ever tried to carry a wagon plus two folding chairs across a grass field in July humidity.
The headliner is a Buffett tribute on the last Sunday in June, opening with an 80s cover band, closing with 9 p.m. fireworks. If you plan one Semmes evening this summer, that's the one to plan.

Semmes Municipal Park handles the organized-sports side of summer. The Brazilian United World Cup Soccer Summer Camp runs the week of July 13 at Semmes Municipal Park, 8108 Morris Hill Rd. If your kid plays rec soccer in the fall, that week is the on-ramp.
The library is where the calendar actually gets dense. In the last week of June alone, the Semmes Regional Library ran an "All About Rocks" all-ages Librarian's Special on Monday, June 29 from 1 to 2 p.m. and a Lego builders program for ages 6 to 11 on Tuesday, June 30 from 4 to 5 p.m. The chess club runs regularly for ages six and up. That cadence continues through July. If summer camp isn't in the budget or the schedule, the library is filling more of the weekday afternoon gap than most residents realize.
The Boys & Girls Club Semmes branch does the heavy lifting for families that need a full day. The Semmes branch at 3810 Wulff Road East serves Semmes with breakfast and lunch included, and registration is free with no cost to attend. That's not a small detail in a summer where a lot of enrichment programs have crept above $200 a week.
Where residents actually eat after
After a park evening, nobody in Semmes drives to Airport Boulevard. The food ring is Moffett Road, and it's tight enough that you can pick a cuisine on the walk back to the car.

On Uber Eats, Los Rancheros is popular for Mexican and Sakura Sushi & Hibachi is popular for Dinner. That's the delivery data confirming what the parking lots already tell you on a Friday night. Chef King II at 7820 Moffett Rd serves classic dishes from stir-fries and lo mein to fried rice and General Tso's Chicken. Moe's Original Bar B Que features Bama-style smoked meats with two sauces plus seafood and fresh fish options.
The reason to name these instead of pointing at "restaurants near the park" is simple. On a Sunday night in late June, when the Block Party lets out at nine, four of these five will still be open for a pickup order, and one of them will have a line.
The teen gap Semmes just started filling
Most Semmes summer coverage stops at kids under twelve. What's actually new this year isn't in the summer calendar at all. It's the pipeline behind it. The City of Semmes City Council is launching a new program for MGM students. The first City of Semmes Junior City Council will begin taking applications April 1st, and students currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 that have an interest in applying should sign up for the interest meeting.
For families with high schoolers who've aged out of camp but aren't yet driving to Mobile for a summer job, that program is one of the few civic-engagement slots in the county open to that specific age band. Worth flagging to a rising sophomore even though it isn't a July calendar item.
Looking past Labor Day without leaving the map
The rhythm doesn't stop with fireworks. Two dates already carry the fall.
Heritage Day, on September 5, is the next big Honor Park draw once the pool-and-fireworks stretch ends. It's followed by the Semmes Christmas Market and Tree Lighting on November 21, then the Camellia Festival in February and the Azalea Festival in March. Those four dates plus the June Block Party form the civic backbone of the whole year, and every one of them lands within a mile of the Honor Park / Municipal Park / library triangle.
That's what makes Semmes different from a lot of Mobile County. You aren't tracking twelve venues across twelve neighborhoods. You're tracking three, plus a food strip.
The one thing to put on the calendar this week
Block off Sunday, June 28, five to nine. Take the Orange Route from the Senior Center if you don't want to fight for grass. Eat at a vendor booth before the foam party ends at 7:30, catch Mixtape's first set, and stake a spot for the 9 p.m. fireworks. If you have kids under six, plan the foam-party pivot to a change of clothes in the car.
If you can only manage one Semmes evening between now and Labor Day, that's the one that gives you the highest concentration of what makes living here feel like a small city instead of a stretch of Moffett Road.
